Is Your Golf Equipment Right for You
This article may seem strange at this time of the year, but I will try anyway to make you think for a bit. Are you a golfer that buys their golf equipment on sale at Dick’s or Sports Authority, WalMart or Costo?? Or was it handed down to you from a friend?? All of this may seem great that you got it for free or at a good price. But would you by a new or used car without test driving it and then listen to the options you may get or want??
Your golf equipment should be treated the same way, so get fitted before you buy that driver, putter or wedge. Even the correct grip size is important. Most golf club fitters will charge you $100 to $150.00 for the hour and half session and may even apply some of that toward your purchase.
Lets shed some light on this matter - Tiger and I are the same height 6ft 1in does that mean I hit the same equipment as him NO, he has more club head speed than I.
- He hits a 8.5 degree driver with an extra stiff shaft, where I hit a 10 degree driver with a stiff flex at 65 grams.
- My putter length is 33.34 and is 2 degrees up and my irons are a 1/2 over at standard lie with nippon 1050 stiff flex.
- Tiger, I believe has Dynamic Gold Extra stiff and blades.
- Wedges are also important I have 58 degrees and 8*of bounce and 54 and 10* of bounce.
So again, no one is ever the same in term of lofts, lies and degrees. If you want to hit your drivers further and straighter you are going to need at least 10* and a mid flex shaft. Spend the time and energy by getting fitted properly, especially if you are thinking of getting new equipment for the holidays.
I forgot one other thing, grip size - Most of us need standard size grips. A quick way to do this is simple, in your left hand grip the club if your fingers are touching your palm to small and on the other hand if your fingers are barely touching your palm to big. If you wear a glove pay attention, sizes small to medium standard size grip. Glove sizes Medium large to Large you need mid size and anything else Jumbo.
